- Nothing is more miserable than being unemployed. Unemployment in this country is horrendously high. Here we have the states ranked worst to first and color coded blue or red based on how they voted in the 2008 presidential election. The blue states are not looking to good here. These numbers are based on the October 2010 report of the Bureau of Labor Statistics. November numbers which just came out are worse still, 9.8% overall.
